SA Kenneth A. Schmutz joined the FBI in 2004 after working nine years in the private sector for Novell Inc.  SA Schmutz’s first assignment out of the FBI Academy was the Seattle Field Office where he investigated computer intrusions including the first successful prosecution under the Can Spam Act of Robert A. Soloway.  SA Schmutz was transferred to the Chicago Field office in 2007 and while there spent two months in Romania assisting the national police with multiple prosecutions.  In 2009, SA Schmutz was promoted to Supervisory Special Agent in the FBI’s Cyber Division in Washington DC where he focused on cyber threats to the critical infrastructure.   

In August of 2012, SA Schmutz was transferred to the Omaha Field Division where he serves as the supervisor of the FBI’s Cyber Task Force (CTF).
